Geoff, thanks for starting the new thread. Excellent way to kick it off Kanker. Several big name players will end up franchised, re-negotiated or playing in another uni next year. Of course, I think the Skins should try to get Haynesworth and/or Peppers. Danny Boy can afford both.

While I think it's fitting that the media is making less of a big deal about Brett Favre's retirement this time around, I still think it's time to take another look at his records, good and bad: Records and milestonesAt the end of the 2008 regular season, Favre owned or shared most of the well-known NFL career records for quarterbacks, including: • Consecutive starts by a quarterback: 269 (291 including playoffs) • Games started by a quarterback: 269 (291 including playoffs) • Career regular-season victories by a starting quarterback: 169 (Regular-season record: 169-100) • Career passing touchdowns: 464 • Career passing yards: 65,127 • Career pass completions: 5,720 • Career pass attempts: 9,280 • Career interceptions thrown: 310 • Career games with at least three touchdowns: 65 • AP NFL MVP awards: 3 (1995, 1996, 1997) (tied with Peyton Manning) • Career playoff interceptions thrown: 28 (tied with Jim Kelly) • Career playoff losses as starting QB: 10 (tied with Dan Marino) Favre is one of four quarterbacks to lead the league in touchdown passes four times. The others are Johnny Unitas, Len Dawson and Steve Young. Favre is one of three NFL quarterbacks to have beaten all 31 other NFL teams in his career. In addition, Favre owns a number of team records, having printed his name into almost every passing category in the annals of Green Bay Packers history. Most recently, he set the team record for consecutive completions with 20 on November 22, 2007, against the Detroit Lions. With 39 "come-from-behind" 4th-quarter wins and three more overtime victories (Packers total of 40 makes him Green Bay record holder), Favre is second only to John Elway's 47 4th-quarter or OT "come-back wins," in NFL history. Best, Geoff

No question that Brett has had a fabulous career. The most difficult thing to do is retire. More importantly, knowing WHEN its time to retire. Brett has always had a rocket for an arm and even into his late thirties has played at a high level in the NFL. But Brett has to be realistic and he knows he's not 25 anymore. I think that if he decides to come back and play another year after calling it quits again this year, anything he does short of winning a Super Bowl could tarnish his impressive career.

Favre certainly had an incredible career. I hope he finds peace with his retirement. I really feel at some point he may get that "playing" feeling again. I just don't think he will act on it.

I agree that the risks for next year would be high. Brett seemed to alternately tarnish and add to his legacy last year. The year didn't begin or end well, but there was some great stuff in between. Favre certainly had an incredible career. I hope he finds peace with his retirement. I really feel at some point he may get that "playing" feeling again. I just don't think he will act on it. I agree with this as well. As I wrote toward the end of last season's thread, I think Favre is trying to ensure -- by foregoing surgery -- that he won't be able to return again if he changes his mind. And welcome back, Silver Dragon Sound! Best, Geoff

Yeah, an article written by Mark Kriegel, who "just by chance" picked the Cardinals in this year's Super Bowl, who "just happened" to write two articles, one on January 16th and the other on January 19, both about Warner. Too bad the Steelers crushed his Cinderalla story Super Bowl.
The article is a joke. One of the "sources" in the article accusing the Super Steelers of the seventies of "juicing" (using steroids) was none other than Kim Wood- the Cincinnati Bengals conditioning coach from 1975 to 2002. Now THERE's an unbiased opinion! Then there was Jim Haslett, another person who tried to compete against the Steelers stating "It started in Pittsburgh". Sure. WHAAA......cry baby LOSERS that couldn't compete on the field so they accuse the Steelers of being cheaters.
Just like people accused the New England Patriots of winning Super Bowls because of their more recent photo scandal. Let's try they had a little bit better team than the teams that lost to them. Or, lets try they made a few more plays than the losers did, when it counted.
There were a number of players that did Steroids in the seventies, not just on the Steelers, other teams too.
Steadyb, why don't you get off your "Steelers are cheaters" campaign and start cheering for your team. God knows they need it. Seattle won't win any championships with their fans trying to run successful teams into the ground.

I'm sure McNabb is lobbying big time for any (2) among Harrison, Boldin, Houshmandzadeh and Gonzalez. So far, the deal of the off-season is Oakland Raiders CB Nnamdi Asomugha. Mumra does it again. Just broke the dam for defensive player contracts.

I heard an interview with a guy that suggested that Philly could be trigger shy going after a big name receiver after the TO debacle, and that they might be doubly trigger shy of Harrison because he isn't trigger shy.

I don't think Philly would have a problem with Harrison who is a silent assassin.

I think Philly would do well to pass on Harrison. I think they can get a decent receiver in the draft. I think the tight end from oklahoma state would be a good pick for them as well. The Eagles seem so close to being a super bowl winning team.

At age 36, I don't know that Harrison is a bargain. He still has the moves, but not the speed. I don't know what kind of money he would cost being that he was cut, but the Eagles would be better off signing a younger player. NFL football is a young man's game.

So Tom Brady married Gisele Bundchen in LA. Nice, no VERY nice. Word is she earns an estimated 35 million a year. Not to shabby. Usually it COSTS a lot of money to get and keep a woman 1/2 as attractive as Gisele, but she even comes with her own money. I "think" she earns more $$$ a year than our good buddy Tom Terrific.
I'd say he's doing pretty good for himself, wouldn't you?

Redskins got Haynesworth! We've all panned Dan Snyder for his big spending ways but this is a big ticket investment that actually makes sense for the Redskins. If you want to fix your defense, you have to start at interior DL and Haynesworth is one of the best - when he's not stepping on other players' heads (literally) .

I'm not sure re-signing DeAngelo Hall for $54M was such a good move, however, Springs is old now. I figured Danny Boy would be in the sweepstakes for getting Haynesworth. Sorry about your loss Mecca.

I don't mind Haynesworth leaving the Titans and going to the Redskins. The Titans were clearly a better team than my Steelers this past season. That is one less star player to be concerned about on the Titans. We may not be so lucky to avoid the Titans next season. The other good news from the Steelers camp is that they did not tender an offer to big mouth Anthony Smith. The idiot that "guaranteed" a win over the Patriots last season. He got burned for two touchdowns in that game. He didn't even suit up for the last three games we played so he's gone. Mike T.
