Well, it's done. Just after Christmas, I called Mr. Gollihur and ordered my NS Design WAV 4 - Amberburst. Bob sez they should be getting their shipment around the middle of this quarter. He also said he should be among the first retailers to get their mitts on them, hot off the boat from China (subsequently me being among the first to get MY mitts on one).
Just to compare and contrast, Bob is selling me this for the same price as Music123, he's charging the same for shipping ($0), the same for tax ($0), and I finally got Music123 to admit that they won't have any in stock by January 5th, or January 20th, for that matter. The earliest M123 estimates that they can get theirs is (wait for it) - February 16th!
It will be nice to be able to drive my car to practice and rehersal (and soon my college class) instead of having to load Ashley up in the van.
Support your local retailers and fellow forumites!!!

Just got the e-mail from Gollihur Music. They anticipate taking shipment in a couple of days. I'm high on that list!

I don't play upright, but for a while I stood up to every EUB in any store I was in. And even my untrained hands immediately felt at home on that instrument. I'm sure you'll love it.
And I can't help but laugh at you guys - I have to think about writing a short story called "The Adventures Of Moot and Flank".

Dear lord...I had never looked at the price tag on those things! Play it in good health, Frank. I guess I'll have to hold off on hating you since apparently there have been some rules applied to the game.

Thanks. Wednesday (delivery day) seems like a long way off. Until then, sorry gents, but I think I got the last one of these: - with the free gig bag valued at $39.99 (street price $19.99, I'm betting) Yeah, you guessed right. Squier jazz fretless.

You may want to upgrade from the stock gigbag. I traded for my WAV4, but the guy I traded with included both the stock gigbag plus one he had made for the bass. It had significantly more padding than the stock bag. Plus it has a pouch for the tripod stand. I'm fairly sure that the gigbag I have is pretty much identical to the one that Azola offers with their Bugbass EUB.

Thanks for the head-up. I'm sure that between Bob and BassNW, I'll come up with something. I'll be making regular trips to Marysville, WA come the spring thaw. Easy enough to take it with me and pay Curt a visit while in the Seattle area.

Y'know, I don't have the patience for this crap. He's the pics. My Squier VM Fretless showed up on the same truck (Now you know why I asked, Steve). Got to noddle around witht he WAV-4 and had a couple of small gripes. No problems quality-wise, it's well put together and solid. It was packed well enough to survive the shipping. The tripod feels a little cheap. The sound disappointed me a little bit - sounded a lot like a bass guitar. The strings certainly appear to be standard medium or large gage bass guitar strings. Not have the bout resting on my gut is going to take a little getting used to and I seem to be playing the thing a little flat compared to the 3/4. Then I read the letter that Bob included with the thing. He says in the letter that people think the tripod is cheap and typically buy a CR stand (all metal) and the first thing Bob would do would be to change the strings. That's why you should read the instructions, boys and girls. So, it's off to the store this weekend for a set of real strings. The tuners are almost bass guitar like and won't take the larges of the available strings so I'm going to have to do some testing. Then, I guess, I can just have Bob send me a set of what he thinks is best. All-in-all, it does what I need it to do. It plays just like an upright without me having to drag the 3/4 out to the van everytime. Will be road testing it Sunday with the jazz band's rehersal. Details to follow.

What? Bob couldn't fix your playing flat? Damned if that isn't cause for a refund. Or practice time.
Enjoy your new baby, Frank!

Got to noddle around witht he WAV-4 and had a couple of small gripes. Frank, there is a megathread on Talkbass dedicated to the WAV4. I'll spare you the trouble of going through the entire thing (I'm at page 40 or something and still going) and summarize it for you: - cheap stand, upgrade - change the strings but beware that not all strings seem to fit the tuners - maybe change the tuners too - raise the bridge height (some go maximum height and still think it's too low) - use the arco setting for a more upright sound ( even when playing pizzicato) - use the pizzicato setting for a more fretless bass sound - don't take off the back plate too often (no idea what that means but it was repeated often) That's about it. I look forward to getting mine, but am already setting money aside for the upgraded stand, flatwound strings and perhaps a new set of tuners.

I've hopped over to that site often (TalkBass has a nice upright forum group) and other than not taking the back plate off (which I've already done once - I think if you do it too often you warb the holes out and can't get the screws to bite when you put it back in), everything there was covered by Bob in his letter that he sent with the bass.
Bob also has tech for it on his website. Good thing, because when you to to Steinberger's site and click on support for the WAV, you get an under construction page.
The tuners look like the came straight of an Ibanez. Will be buying new strings Friday and looking to tweak this weekend.
Oh, the playing flat? I had the height misadjusted and it was actually too low.
