Hey Flank, as soon as I got it yesterday I started playing on it. Well, raised the bridge as far as she'd go because I didn't like the low action, and then started fiddling around with it. At first the position markers threw me off and I was playing horribly bad, thinking to myself that I suck harder than even I imagined

Then I realised what the deal is and things got considerably better.
For some reason, the A-string seems completely non-responsive, twangy and dead. Every single note I play on it sounds, well, dead. So I will look to replace these strings as soon as some additional cash comes in. We have a possible gig in September which would get me the proper funding for that (yes, barely enough for strings ...), all the other gigs we have lined up now are either free (

) or against a percentage of ticket sale.
Anyway, I must say it is a boatload of fun playing this thing. I realise already that if I get an actual doghouse there'd still be a transitional period as this is very much an instrument onto its own, but until I do, this will definitely be a blast to play.
Oh yeah, one last thing: long live the Internet ! I've been looking up instructional video's on YouTube for a while now in preparation, and without those I'd definitely have started out with really, really bad technique. Not that it's much better now, but at least I have a decent idea of what my left hand should look like on the instrument
My girlfriend suggested I
"do it right this time (wonder what she means by that !) and get some upright lessons" but it's hard enough finding an electric bass teacher ... Still, guess it won't hurt to place some ads?
