Ugh, I want this thing too badly !! I'm going to let my order stand as is and see if they'll actually make delivery come June ... I can always start saving up for the Tony Franklin after that grin

Right. Got a mail today (after inquiring) that the delivery has been pushed back to July mad They are beginning to test my patience ... March became June became July. And they keep suggesting I buy the Aria Pro whatever which they have in stock.

The worst part is, I'm beginning to feel the temptation of ordering the NS CR4 instead, but it's € 1,000 on top of the WAV eek Of course, since I do not actually have that kind of cash to spare, I won't do it. I'm just saying ...

Incredible but true: my WAV arrived today ! Right when I was about to serve myself terribly cooked spaghetti with a horrible sauce. Yes, I'm home alone grin

Why am I not upstairs practising right now? Because I'm looking at YouTube video's of Andrew Anderson explaining stuff re: double bass thu Will be practising in a minute ! I'm quite sure I will NOT be taking the WAV to tomorrow's gig, though, but I think that as from Monday I'll start taking her to rehearsals.

Good on ya!

Play it much yet? Interested in your opinion on the stock strings.

Hey Flank, as soon as I got it yesterday I started playing on it. Well, raised the bridge as far as she'd go because I didn't like the low action, and then started fiddling around with it. At first the position markers threw me off and I was playing horribly bad, thinking to myself that I suck harder than even I imagined grin Then I realised what the deal is and things got considerably better.

For some reason, the A-string seems completely non-responsive, twangy and dead. Every single note I play on it sounds, well, dead. So I will look to replace these strings as soon as some additional cash comes in. We have a possible gig in September which would get me the proper funding for that (yes, barely enough for strings ...), all the other gigs we have lined up now are either free (rolleyes) or against a percentage of ticket sale.

Anyway, I must say it is a boatload of fun playing this thing. I realise already that if I get an actual doghouse there'd still be a transitional period as this is very much an instrument onto its own, but until I do, this will definitely be a blast to play.

Oh yeah, one last thing: long live the Internet ! I've been looking up instructional video's on YouTube for a while now in preparation, and without those I'd definitely have started out with really, really bad technique. Not that it's much better now, but at least I have a decent idea of what my left hand should look like on the instrument thu

My girlfriend suggested I "do it right this time (wonder what she means by that !) and get some upright lessons" but it's hard enough finding an electric bass teacher ... Still, guess it won't hurt to place some ads?

David you do realize that you don't have a new fish don't ya... That's your imagination playing up. You shouldn't be home alone. smile

Unless we get pictures you don't have a bass and stop talking about that imaginary fish of yours...

I had spoken to Ned S. on the phone (Moot can bust on the product, but the service is awesome). They had offered to have me send back the bridge and add wood to it. Mine was raised as high as I could get it and still found the action a little low to my liking on the G. I actually got used to it. If you loosen the strings enough, it will pull right out the front of the bass and you can find someone with mad carpentry skillz to add a slice of wood to the back.

You get to the point where you have it on the tripod and flip it horizontal and play it like a really long bass guitar?

The funny thing is, I took pics of it but they don't appear on the camera, apparently ... You may have a point, David eek

Heck no grin I'm still working hard just getting acquainted with the feel and scale of the instrument and frankly I haven't had too much time to spend on it just yet. Might take her to band practise tomorrow, but I'm not sure yet.

I do find that Todd Johnson's Walking Bass dvd's are a great learning tool so I am combining two things at a time: learning walking bass and learning upright bass. A lot of the exercises on the DVD are in F which is just fine by me, I'm comfortable up there in 1st position smile
