You're a cheap trick.

(I didn't need to do that, but I really wanted to.......)

Under the heading "Starting band" was this little piece of literary genius:

"just looking for singer guatir leads rym piano for a band.Playing 50 60 70 80 90 jazz bules alitte of all that at there exp req. If your only serious.
call brian at 443-962-7188"

Well, let's cut him a little slack- he is from Glen Burnie, MD (AKA Glen Burnout).

Unfortunately, I can only play 10 jazz bules; my tolerence has decreased over the years. But I'm so much more than serious.

smile That's normal. When you post there's a check box to let people know if they can contact you for anything other than what you're posting about.

If that ad had been posted 20 years or so ago, I would have thought it was Prince loking for his next back-up singer/spin-off project.

I have just very recently become a craigslist user, and this past Sunday was a terrific day, partially due to the site.. Let me explain...

Earlier in the day I auditioned for a local band and got the job. (That would be a good day for most of us by itself..) When I came home, I got online, went through all the referral sites to update my ads, then clicked on Craigslist. I have been looking for a good inexpensive small truck since the two vehicles we have both decided to die within a week of each other (one terminally).. Guy just posted a '92 Ranger, just driven from California to Michigan. Vehicle overheated, and the owner tried to change the thermostat. One of the mounting bolts fell into the timing belt. Since he "wasn't a mechanic", he decided to sell it cheap. My son and I were there within an hour. We brought it home, fixed it the next morning, and for just $700 I have a rust-free truck in freekin' perfect condition. Now I have a line on a $50 fiberglass cap to put on it.... craigslist again... I'm sold on it...

For every CL story with a happy ending, there are thousands posted by droolers. Our BL recently posted on CL to look for someone to record our demo an put her cell phone number on the ad. That ended well...

Good for you, dhomer. As a former auto/truck tech, I've gotten a few great deals like that.

Overall, Craigslist is a real interesting place- especially on the musician and musical instrument threads. It's provided some good fodder for discussion on here.

Check out the cab on this guitar pairing:
http://ithaca.craigslist.org/msg/1029768651.html

If that speaker box came with a mate, I'd be tempted to buy it and install a nice pair of coaxial speakers for stereo speakers in, say, the bedroom or our enclosed porch. Very retro, very hip cabinet.

I'm sure you can find an empty one out there, put in your own speaker, and a piece of plywood for the back.

calling all ladies, faggots, punx, etc.

i am looking to form a punk band with other like minded musicians/artists/activists. i am interested in radical feminism, queer theory, gender politics, genderfuck, riot not diet, gay shame...

i don't really play any instruments, but am willing to learn. i like the idea of switching around/sharing different duties within a band so that everyone's perspective/point of view is seen and heard. i would say that the part i'm most interested in is mostly vocal/songwriting, but as i said, i am willing to share, exchange ideas, and work as a group.

my influences/inspirations are all over the place, but some of my favorite bands/artists/people include...bikini kill, huggy bear, the germs, julie ruin, sonic youth, limpwrist, fugazi, yoko ono, emma goldman, lydia lunch, david wojnarowicz, gay shame of san fran, etc.

obviously, as you can tell, i would consider myself a queer feminist. it's something i strongly believe in as i myself am a queer person and have always felt that it's high time that women REALLY get what is due to them.

with that said, i am out to fight against such things as fat-phobia, homophobia, sexism, racism, heterosexism, classim...i am not interested in any forms of elitism. everyone deserves a chance to speak whether it's something you/me/we agree with.

so let's do this! hit me up! share ideas/strategies! let's connect!

"Classim"? "Heterosexism"...that's one I hadn't heard before.

"I am not interested in any forms of elitism." I always wondered if putting down narrow-minded people was being narrow-minded.

I wonder if she'd like a skinny, hetero- guy to play bass. I should respond.

We went to support a local band a few weeks ago. It was a "lesbian" band. They were good and have a good reputation. They announced that if you dance, you get one of their T-shirts. My wife and I danced most of the first set, much of the time as the only people out there. Trying to 1) enjoy ourselves and 2) get folks up dancing.

They ignored us and would not give us a shirt. They only gave them to "lesbian looking" folks. Was foolish. Our band is gaining popularity. Didn't help expand their netword at all... Even some in the crowd that did get shirts were wondering why we did not... BTW, about 20% of our regular crowd is lesiban. I don't know why and don't really care why, just glad to have an appreciative audience. What if I wore one of their shirts to play one of our gigs? Could have been cool. "Open minded people" suck.

Well, our poster says she doesn't play any instruments but is willing to learn. If she finds some similar people, I say we chip in and buy them:

No kidding. Especially when some of these 'open minded' and 'tolerant' people find out that I'm a Christian and lean to the right a bit. All of a sudden, I'm the meanest, most evil, fear mongering, homophobic, Hannity-Limbaugh-worshipping @sshole that ever walked the face of the earth. (Hopefully you all understand my point- I'm not trying to digress the discussion into a politico-religious debate)

I like Jeremy's idea. That's about right for someone who says 'I can't sinng or play anything, but I'm an activist and want to start a band'
