Have you been taking those pills again? \:D

Morning Peeps!!!

Cold, blustery with some sunshine but heavy rain later.

I'm in 2 bands now - after a 2nd audition I'm in a Rockabilly-type outfit as well as Main St.

Unfortunately, apart from an unpaid set for Leicestershire Hospital Radio on the 20th Dec., neither has any gigs before the New Year.

I've a chance of doing some solo stuff, which now I have the Double Six, I might pursue.

Neato!

Hey Geoff!

Very heavy rain here.

What material are you doing with the Rockabilly stuff - I love all those 50s songs?

I had a very neat gig on Saturday. Despite the rain there was quite a crowd and some even stayed the whole four hours.

Despite the fact it is nominally a jazz/fusion gig we get to play pretty much what we want so the last set we turned out to play some party tunes and soul type stuff: Midnight Hour, Mustang Sally, Good Times, a Scissors Sisters tune, Gnarls Barkely etc. Went down very well.

Hey Phil, - nice to have a gig, never mind a nice gig (use of nice in the modern sense here... \:D )

Rockabilly - Stray Cats, Eddie Cochrane, Elvis uh-hu-hu!! and all that stuff - Gene Vincent, Johnny Kidd, Beatles etc.

The modern sense? Nice has had so many meanings over the centuries - I think the original one was meaning stupid. I wasn't really aware of a modern one (ie change in meaning over the last 50 years - am I out of touch?)

Rockabilly - Oh, I love that kind of gig. I use the palm mute and thump away gleefully. The crowds always dance at those gigs too!

Are you playing guitar or bass? Of course double bass is ideal but I've managed to get a neat swing out of the electric.

I'm playing rhythm, actually, currently using my Telecaster although I might give the Aria TA-40 with P90s a go.

I thought the original meaning of 'nice' was 'exact'?? As in the same way that 'exquisite' only applied to extreme pain.

"nice
c.1290, "foolish, stupid, senseless," from O.Fr. nice "silly, foolish," from L. nescius "ignorant," lit. "not-knowing," from ne- "not" (see un-) + stem of scire "to know." "The sense development has been extraordinary, even for an adj." [Weekley] -- from "timid" (pre-1300); to "fussy, fastidious" (c.1380); to "dainty, delicate" (c.1405); to "precise, careful" (1500s, preserved in such terms as a nice distinction and nice and early); to "agreeable, delightful" (1769); to "kind, thoughtful" (1830). In 16c.-17c. it is often difficult to determine exactly what is meant when a writer uses this word. By 1926, it was pronounced "too great a favorite with the ladies, who have charmed out of it all its individuality and converted it into a mere diffuser of vague and mild agreeableness." [Fowler]

"I am sure," cried Catherine, "I did not mean to say anything wrong; but it is a nice book, and why should I not call it so?" "Very true," said Henry, "and this is a very nice day, and we are taking a very nice walk; and you are two very nice young ladies. Oh! It is a very nice word indeed! It does for everything." [Jane Austen, "Northanger Abbey"]"

So is there a double bassist? The Tele would be great.

LOL!

The bassist plays one of those huge old Ovation Magnum basses.

I actually worked on one of these a couple of years ago - took the electrics out & cleaned pots & sliders, check out the circuit, new battery, then did a setup & adjusted neck.

Weighed a ton, but big, pillowy bass tones available. Add mids & it gets quite barky.

Has its place.

I bought my girlfriend an acoustic for her birthday, a Jasmine S35 by Takamine. After not playing since college, I'm getting her back into the swing of things, hope she likes it, I heard good things.

I just sent it back to musiciansfriend \:D

I noticed that the next higher model (S34C) which was $30 more expensive was marked down to the same price as the S35. An exchange is in order

Went to see a flat today, looks quite cool. Small enough for me, but big enough to fit my crap in. lol.. So hopefully I will get that one, I think there is quite a bit of interest in it, so we'll see. If I do get it, looks like mid december will be move time! Oh how we all love to move house! Would be my first bachelor pad! I am semi looking forward to it, don't wanna get my hopes up until I have got it, though.

Some really cool tunes on the singers site, Phil.. She kinda sexy too. Can't be bad! Enjoy the gig tonight!

Will do. She was on the funk gigs I subbed on recently -she knows how to work a crowd too.

What's the deal Lee, looking for a second home?

Hope it wasn't too messy Lee! We should get together sometime, do you see yourself getting to London any time?

Last night's gig was absolutely wonderful - an absolute cracker. It seemed like almost everything we did came off well. The singer was great and had the audience in the palm of their hands. They screamed for an encore at 2:45 am (Good Times) and were still partying outside in the street after 3!

They were a lovely crowd too - very friendly and appreciative. And so many beautiful women!

A friend in Japan who's a lovely guitar player has tracked me back down after a long while (he's playing the Cissy Strut version on my MySpace).

He has this acoustic duo thing happening (very smooth, sparse and tasteful)

I would like that. Hopefully a gig earlier in the night than 10:30pm to 3:00am.

I liked the acoustic version of September, I've always loved that song.

I don't mind a late one, I can always crash at some cheap dive in Soho :-) I thought about coming to your next one, but I see it is on the 8th.. a Monday! So I don't think I can make that one.

Did I put up the 8th anywhere on the net? OK, I spotted it on the Lowdown and changed it.
