I have an original Mu-Tron.... still in the original box. It uses two 9v batteries about every three hours and makes a bass guitar sound like a two-ton baritone duck with a giant kazoo up its butt.
Someday I am gonna cough up the bucks and buy a power supply for it so I can put it on my pedalboard.
Before you ask--no, you can't have it.

Erik, Why not just get one of these and hook up both of the "9V button adapters"? It should mimic two 9V batteries pretty well, and provides plenty of current (1.7 Amps each). Only $35.

Maury, I have considered that (I use a Godlyke for the rest of my stuff) but apparently that's not a good way to power the old Mu-Trons... they need 24v for some reason or other and require a special adaptor to do so. Or two 9v batteries.
Now someone will come along and tell me that they do exactly what you described, and it works fine. Then I'll try it and destroy my pedal because you know that's the way life works.
Anyway, one dude makes the "proper" adaptor for these pedals, but he wants something like $75 for it. ugh.

Erik, let me send you a Mu-Tron power supply or two. I had mine modified to use something else and no longer need them. Getz, you can't use two nine volt supplies or two outputs from a Godlyke. The Mu-tron has a unique system requiring a power supply that puts out 9 volts positive and nine volts negative (if I understand it correctly, which obviously I don't.) Besides my Mu-Tron III, I have owned: Electro-Harmonix Q-Tron EBS Bass IQ Boss Bass Synth Electro-Harmonix Baseballs (Russian Version) Seamoon Funk Machine. None of them were even close to the Mu-Tron. I've also used Willie's Emma Discombobulator and am still waiting to try a Pigtronix Envelope Phaser , a Chunk Systems Agent 00Funk Mark II , an Xotic Robotalk, a Subdecay Prometheus , an MG Charles Bukowsky Envelope Filter , and whatever else might be out there.

You're a double post. I have an original Mu-Tron.... still in the original box. bastard. ...makes a bass guitar sound like a two-ton baritone duck with a giant kazoo up its butt. I'm STILL laughing at that and I read it 5 minutes ago.

I like my EMMA DiscumBOBulator. It has visited with Jeremy and Bump. The BassIQ is nice, too. I bumped the thread about my pedal.
Compared to other kinds of pedal effects, my limited experience has been that extra dough makes a difference for envelope filters.
Peace. --s-uu

I just love being late to the party! In the 'lope catagory I have: Q-Tron Bassballs Boss Dynamic Wah I have played the Discumbobulator and like id and I am very interested to try out a Bottomfeeder Boomstick which is a clone of the old DOD 440 voiced for bass. And the Subdecay Prometheus interests me as well. However, my next two pedals are the EHS Bass Micro Synth XO, and the EHX POG (I have the Micro and it kicks righteous ass but I want the POG as well) Basshappi = Filter Whore

I also really like the Mu-Tron on guitar and theremin... It's a really fun pedal.

I use one of these: Still, I'm not big on pedals neither. At least not on Bass. On Guitar I use the one at my old, beloved and trusty Roland GP-8 (dynamic filter), very, very eventually. I also have a DOD Octoplus on my bass stuff, which I only have used (as the envelope filter) for fun at home, not that I really had any need for any (now that think about it, the envelope maybe for playing "Chameleon".. mmm. ) What I'd love to have, however, is the exact set of pedals Larry Graham uses on his instructional video. Only the Roland Jet Phaser is built like a tank, and is found expensive as hell on EvilBay...

I use the electo-harm Q-tron plus. Its analog has a range of sounds. Not all of them are usable but its relatively easy to get a good usable sound (just aim for the middle the knobs go from so mild you can barley hear the effect to extreme) I'm getting better at finding a sound quickly. Its ananlog and has an effects loop so you can pretty much put whatever you want in the middle of th signal chain.

I have an old Boss T-Wah pedal that I really dislike. It's pretty crappy so I may be looking for a good envelope filter myself. Using a boost pedal dirty or clean can make a huge difference when using a auto wah. As will any other pedals you use. Also using a pick can make a big difference.

My main EF is a Seamoon Funk Machine that makes me very happy despite it's age and proclivities.
I also have a Korg multi-effects unit that takes AC power and does an acceptable job at the filter thing when I am looking to do that thing on headphones late at night.
Peace,
wraub

Cool! I've always wanted to try out one of those. I haven't been able to find a Guyatone BR2 around here either. Here is a very good FX info/review site: DiscoFreq's FX site Cheers!

No one has mention the BOSS FT-2 DYNAMIC FILTER I love that thing very to play you never get bore of it. specialy if you have ACTIVE ELECTRONICS IN YOUR BASS. Very analog and natural very responsive to your dynamics. Made in 1976 and was only under procuction for two years, because it was fard to futuristic so people didn't like it. check it out.
