Ladies, I'm trying to hire a keyboard player for some web collaboration for a CD I'm putting together of guitar oriented rock. All the tunes are written, and even some of the keyboard parts are put together, but I really need a real keyboard player to put it together properly. There's some piano parts, some string stuff, and various other sounds that would fit the rock/alternative genre.

I've found a few recording services online but they're a little pricy at around $150/song.

Any advice for trying to find someone?

You honestly think that's expensive? That's just sad.

Sorry, can't help you.

Aw, Hell, I'd do it for $149.95 a song, but I'm not a lady.

Maybe this is another case of "equal work for less pay"? That is, "ladies" don't earn as much for the same work you guys would charge more for? :-)

You'd think the "service" would make it up on volume - throw in a stock sequence or two.

Kevin, you'd look great in anything! As long as you're playing a keyboard! \:\)

I dunno.... Kevin sits when he plays. Our luck he'd wear a really short skirt. That would just be wrong.

Somehow I manage to con people into paying me to play with toys that make noise.

Wow, you guys must all be extremely rich keyboard players, and probably very good looking, too.

We're good looking, and we've discovered that "giving it away" doesn't help our reputations.

The maxim 'you get what you pay for' generally applies.

My advice would be:

1. There are only a handful of Ladies and no Gentlemen at all on this forum. You should Google for a "Gentlemen Keyboard Korner" forum. BTW good luck getting a Lady to do anything amazing for less than a hundred and fifty bucks.

Hope this helps, or not.

Oh, and take out the words "guitar oriented."

How can you be so sure?

Now that you guys have scared Johnny away, I've come to my senses. I just got a call from somebody who wants me to set up a network of Vista boxes. Suddenly, sitting on my ass playing guitar oriented rock/alternative doesn't sound so bad.

Here's the deal, Johnny. A six hour day costs $250. You cannot use my name or tell anybody that I played on your record. It's about the same deal as all the other records I won't admit to playing on for the last 35 years.

Like my friend kanker once said, people die of exposure.

I know this type.

I used to work with a lady who was a poet with no musical ability. I wrote music for her but it quickly became obvious she was trying to recruit people to do everything for free. Free studio work, free video production, free promotion, everything.

She was a manipulative crafty scheming con artist who exploited anybody she could, and now no one in town will work with her.

I ran into one of those about twenty years ago auditioning singers. I had her come by early to run down some stuff and realized this was going to be a big waste of the band's time if I didn't find a diplomatic way of throwing her out. The bass player pulled in and fired up a bong. Fortunately, that scared her out door almost as quickly as I could have hoped for. I see her on the local access cable TV station every once in a while. I should record some and put it on youtube.

In that case, I would have fired the bass player too. Completely unprofessional.

Indeed. He should have offered the lady some first.
