Just so you know, this forum is dedicated to the production of surround material - not the playback.

I certainly have no issues with discussing -playback here - after all, getting the playback/monitoring system correct is a very large part of the equation. And certainly - to my mind - playback equates to monitoring, and as such comes under production too.

Anyway - the way I would approach this question would be to forget all about using surround power amps - unless they are pure Class A - and instead go for a high quality set of Active Monitors. This way you will get the amps matched to the monitors, and also obey the cardinal/golden rule - all 5 channels should be the same make & model of speaker/amplifier.
They should also be as close to full-range as possible.

What's your budget?

Neil - I'm not sure how it's so harsh, the point I was making is that the folks here are unlikely to be 100% abreast of all the current models and flavors of amplifiers available on the market.

Does that mean everyone here is 100% up to date on what's available out there for recording surround?
I was given a pretty warm reception when asking about surround playback systems.

Except I didn't deliberately ignore the OP for a week, I just stayed out of it because it's been 4 years or so since I last dabbled in consumer surround equipment.

When no one answered after 8 days, I figured I'd offer an explanation to the OP as to why the question went unanswered...

I would hope this forum is about playback as well though, because I don't hear of too many home project studios mixing in surround.
If this site is only for pros, well then I guess the daily traffic is indicative of that.

Yep. Most of the surround pros moved on to HC when George Massenberg made the same exodus.
