I was surprised to see this thread still getting replies? I kept checking to see if this thread had gone off the main page, into the archive, but instead found out it's still going. Also, anyone want to buy a K61 MIDI Studio controller?

This won't get archived for quite some time. We'll be talking about you long after you're gone (if you ever really leave). Just ask our good friend Coquito King!

Well, looks like I might be sticking around for a while. I'm not really sure why, but something keeps bringing me back here? It could be you guys? Or some other force at work here?

Okay, Okay I admit it, I like hanging out here. I still love synthesizers, and electronic music. You guys are alright. Strange, but alright.

See, in my case this strange force could be very well described as ... laziness.
I could practice.
I could learn anything useful 'bout music.
If I was feeling wild, I could even work out.

But...

Sorry gang, but the insperation and creativeity have not hit me yet! Can't rush these things. ;\) I don't want to fall back into any old habbits. I got out of synths, mainly because it was becoming an obsession, and I kept buying an selling keyboards hopeing that, I would be inspired by just the right sort of keyboard. Obviously that was not to be. I'm still not ready yet, and when I find just the right keyboard to inspire me, then I will start up again.

Also, I have not felt the push yet to play again either. Sorry, but I have been going though a sort of recovery process if you will. So don't expect a lot from me at the moment.

Here's the deal, son.

Either you want to put in the effort or you don't. Invention, as the attage goes, is 1% inspiration and 99% perspiration.

If you're waiting for some magical muse to take hold of you and MAKE you want to play, you're waiting in vain.

You gotta make up your mind. In the immortal words of Myagi:

"You walk along de road. You walk-a lef side, OK. You walk-a right side, OK. You walk-a middle, SQUISH - jus like grape. Same thing with playing music. You play music yes? OK. You play music no? OK. You play music maybe? SQUISH - jus like grape."

Time to make up your mind, and don't ask anyone here to make it up for you (which is what you've been trying to do in this thread, whether you admit it or not)

Do you want to put in the work? Great. Time to sand the deck, Daniel-san.

You don't want to put in the work? It's cool, we'll see you around.

\:D

Just waiting for it to find you...I doubt you will ever feel inspired enough to make some memorable, long-term progress.

There is a LOT to be said for the phrase:

Labor of love.

You don't seem to want to do any labor. And...if you should get lucky to have it all just fall in you lap without any effort...well, I doubt you will really love it, so you'll just lose interest in it quickly.

If you can grasp the concept that it could take you 2-3 years of steady chipping away at being creative before you see something substantial...
…then you might have a chance.
But as it is...you appear to be very unrealistic about where/how you find inspiration and how much labor is required to turn it into creative output.

Isn't there a re-run of Rosanne or some other mundane TV show on....?
That will surely fill out your night more rewardingly than working on some music. ;\)

It's an interesting point about keyboards though. I once read a Keyboard interview with Brian Eno where he commented on the way that synths kind of have this... gyp factor (my words not his) where you buy something with two-hundred different patches and you subconsciously expect that sooner or later, will all those choices, you will come across the perfect patch.

And of course, you can spend so much time looking through the menus that you lose sight of what you were trying to do in the first place. Which was to get something vaguely piano-like to play these three notes in an song intro...

But the same goes for multi-fx boxes for other instruments.

Just a thought, but are you on the right instrument? I started out with keyboards and they just didn't do it for me. I gave up music for a while, but then picked up a guitar. It lit a fire under me and I've been playing ever since.

Now, I'm not saying that you should specifically try guitar, but there could be an instrument out there that is "your" instrument. Is there any instrument that really makes you stop and listen when you hear it?

Not really. I guess, I really wasn't meant to play anything at all. Even when I took piano lessons, I was never really interested. It was working at something and practiceing that put me off.

The fact is, some folks are musicians and some are not. Maybe you're an artist. Maybe you're an athlete. Who knows. One thing I can tell you though, when you're a musician, you know it. It's in your blood. It's what you are. Most musicians go through a dry spell where they feel like giving up, some even do, but you start out with a fire. You start out not being able to put your instrument down because you go through withdrawal without it.

Like I'm fond of saying, I play guitar because the music is in me. I could feel it running all the way down to my finger tips, looking for a way to get out. I had to stick a guitar in the way to help it get out.

If you have never felt that way, then there really is no point in trying to force it. My recommendation is to find that one thing in life that makes you feel that way. Find that one true passion and go after it. That's what life is all about!

Yes there was Mawhahahahaha .

Actually, I really don't know what I am?

Here is what I do know. I love music, all forms, well with a few excptions. I have always loved synthesizers since I was a very young. I am also a collector of antique phonographs, and early recordings from the early 20th century. I have two Edsion phonogrphs, and a Victrola. I have a nice collection of Diaomnd Disc's, cylinder records, and early 78's.

I also have two websites, one is on the ARP Omni, the other is on the Korg Poly-61.

http://arpfanclub.tripod.com
http://paulspoly61-page.tripod.com

Other then that, I really don't have a passion.

Wow... 78rpms. Half your luck1 I love that stuff, though I'm happy enough to buy remastered versions on CD.

Have you ever heard R. Crumb and his Cheap Suit Serenaders? They played a lot of 1920s stuff and even wrote new songs in the same style. One of my favourite bands ever!

Yeah, but you loose someting when you hear it remastered onto a CD> The true way to enjoy them is on an actual machine the way, they were intened to be heard, but that's just my opinion.

Oh, I'm sure you're right, but in the end I guess I'm not quite ready to go to all that trouble.

Ironic, though, isn't it? \:\) Here's something that I'm not willing to follow to its logical conclusion, in the middle of a thread about how you don't feel willing to... you know... ;\)

This has got to be either the dumbest post I have ever written on here, or the most bizzar? Come to think of it, I'm not really sure, what possesed me to write it in the first place? Unless I was trying to justify, my existentce on here. Reading back on it. It doesent, really make any sense. Come to think of it, it was a complete wast of time, and a waste of a thread. Sorry about all this. I must have been out of my mind. Sorry, to waste everyone's time! My Bad.

Now if you'll excuse me, I am going to go beat my head, against the wall.
