Of course now, I need to consider buying a new desk chair. Check out some of those "mesh" chairs. I have one in my day gig office...and an even nicer one in my studio. Man...I love to sink into that chair….makes me feel like James Kirk at the helm of the starship Enterprise. I think I only paid like $260 + shipping for it. Just Google a little...there are great deals out there.

No, no please, make light of my situation. It's probabaly what I need right now anyway. You lazy Fredneck's are all alike! Just leavin' things in a big mess every where. I'll bet you've even got a car (or truck) on cinderblocks in your yard, with Christmas lights strung all over it! Actually.. that could be quite lovely! Next time I drive out to my guitarist's house, I'll look for you!

Well, Fredrick isn't the small backwards hick town it once was. Now it's major city. Second largest in Maryland, populationwise. Baltimore is number 1. A lot of people from DC and Montgomery Co. Have moved up here, becuse the houseing market is cheaper.
Paul My brother lives in Frederick and works in DC. $300K for a 2-bedroom condo is still a bit of a shock to me.

Well...it is a possibility that music is not for you...but boy, you do seem to expect an awful LOT for very little effort and in a short amount of time!
Maybe THAT is the crux of your problem…? Maybe your expectations are a bit unrealistic...???
I know there are some guys out there that CAN just bang out stuff in no time...but I think it's safe to say that for the majority of us, it takes a LOT of work and a LOT of time. Heck, I've been working on an album of my music for over two years already! The planning...writing...recording...editing...mixing...yeah, it takes time and effort.
And let me tell you, it's EASY to quit. I find a hundred excuses every day NOT to do something...BUT, in the end, I keep plugging along knowing that there WILL be a light at the end of the tunnel.
Honestly...if I followed your pace, effort & expectations...I would have quit back in the 70's...

Yeah, I know. It's been that way for me, for quite some time. Your absolutely right, about my expectations being unrealistic. My problem is, is that I really do not know, exactly what I am good at? I wish, I was good, or better at music, but then again, that would be an effort on my part which I just don't seem to have, or poseses. I don't have the desrie, so why persue it. There was a time, when I thought I would, try music. Every music store I went into, to look at keyboards, that I could afford. I was always pointed towards YAMAHA. The SY-22, 35, 77, heck, one salesman at Gutiar Center told me to buy a Motif-6. Needless to say I was none too impressed. I mean, what's the deal with YAMAHA, and why I was I being steared towards them. What's wrong with KORG, or ROLAND. Heck, I was even told to buy an ALESIS QS-6. Then again, when your not really musical, or have unrealistic expectations, like I have. Then it really doesn't matter what synth you get. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against YAMAHA. I think, they're a wonderful company. I do know this. I have a creative side, though it is cahotic, like a Jackson Polock painting. However, there are somethings I am good at. Like my two websites. Paul's Poly-61 Page http://paulspoly61-page.tripod.comARP Fan Club http://arpfanclub.tripod.comSo there is at least one thing I am good at. Well, that's not entriely true, there are lot's of thing's I'm good at, I just don't always stick, with the same thing, or task. Paul

Paul- I was just taking you up on your authorization to lay into you; and I figured I'd go with the whole "fredneck" scheme. Wasn't sure which part of Frederick you were in, City, county, etc. I guess you could always say at least you're not from Ijamsville, right? Though there are still a few parts of Frederick that have the cars on cinder blocks in the driveway/parking pad/alleyway/back area.
So you're not playing anything? Nothing? C'mon, hammer out a few notes.
Ok, here's a little wager for you:
You have 1 week to come up with some music. At least 2 minutes 30 seconds long. Record it, however "unprofessionally" you have to, and get it posted somewhere for us to hear it. If you do, I'll send you a cd. If you don't, I'll send you on a wild goose chase around FSK Mall. And a box of old casette tapes.
Are you man enough to accept my challenge?
you know, only two things come from Frederick.. Steers and...
Ah, it just doesn't quite flow... Clock is ticking- play that not-so-funky music, penguin boy!

Thanks Dan! No, I am not from Ijamsville, I live in Frederick City. I would accept your challenge, but I have no recording software, or a way to post music. Sorry, I can't even come up with squat. Just send me the old cassette tapes, and I'll run around the mall, like a wild goose. This penguin boy has no funky music. I'm giving up music completely. Threw out my last old copies of keyboard magazine. Deleted, any synth related sites from my favorites meneu, and will prorbbably put my controller keyboard up for sale on ebay. As I told Mario, I just don't have it in me, sorry. Trying to come up with or play music is like . This is the last website to go. It's been real, well not really. Anyway, you can make fun of Fredrick all you want, it really doesn't bother me. Anyway, thanks for the challenge. I'll get my cassette deck warmed up. PEACE! Paul

Record on your cassette deck, send it to me, and I'll find a way to post it. Howzabout that?
And nothing against Frederick, really; like I said, my guitarist & drummer live there. If you ever go to the Cofee Table in Wittier, I sometimes play there. Or the Mudd Puddle.

I don't know how else too explain this? I have no talent! I have tried, and just gotten bored. I have tried every conciveable way, to learn to play or make my own music. I even went through 18 keyboards. Obviously having the right synth/keyboard was not the answer. Tried a drum machine, software synthesizer, samplers and the piano. Was unable to come up with anything. My playing technique is abomniable. I am only able to play a few very few christmas tunes. One slightly off classical peice, and only half of a pop peice. In the end, I wind up getting bored and loseing interest, which happens quite a bit, I might add. Miro is right, my expectation are unrealistic. I want to play, I just don't want to work at it. Sorry! Paul

As I have said before, I can not come up with anything!
Miro is right. I don't think music is for me. Sure I enjoy listening to it, but when it comes to playing or makeing music forget it. The reason for the post in the first place, was to try and explain why I joined this forum, if I had no intention of pursueing music. When I joined back in 2006, I was still under the delusion, that I was going to play, if I just had the right gear? Well relaity slaped me in the face, and I realised that was never going to happen. Also, I figured sombody out too know why there was a memeber who was not posting a whole lot.
Actually, I though my memebership was going to be removed? That did not happen? Weird? I still see no point even staying on here, if I am never, going to do anything with music.
I have accepted this, I just wish everyone else on here would.
Paul

Ok, we accept it too. Thanks for sharing your story. I do hope that you find your niche and make the most of it. If you ever need a semi-local person to contact, PM me.
See you on the flip side!

Actually, I though my memebership was going to be removed? That did not happen? Weird? Not THAT weird, there's a HUGE chunk of the membership that registered just so they could ask about a first guitar and... well, who knows whether they ever went ahead and bought it, let alone learnt to play it.

Well, at least someone agrees with me.
Actually, I thought after my rant, that no one would be interested in this theard anymore, and that it would just go into the archives, to be deleted eventually. Although, I'm not too surprised, this happened. I have had threads, that I had posted even a year ago, on other boards, get resurected, fo a second, but breif life.

So, you took a week away, then came back for a peek. What's up? What brings you back? And a happy Easter to you, too!
