GuitarPlayerFL
Hi Myles, I talked to you at the Baked Potato Friday night during a break in Carl Verheyen's set (I'm the one moving to Florida). Just wanted to thank you for going through Carl's rig for me...somebody else got to talking to you and I didn't get a chance to say Thanks. I really appreciate it (plus the heads up on the VHT power amps.) davidm
Myles, I believe the Venus 3 is switchable to 7 watts, compared to the 25 watt setting I currently use with my Quiana. Wouldn't that make a fairly big difference in volume? Thanks, Dave

Wouldn't that make a fairly big difference in volume? Thanks, Dave Nope ... cutting the wattage in half is only a -3dB change. And ... cathode biased amps sound much louder for their wattage. This is why a 30 watt Vox AC-30 was just as loud as a 100 watt Fender twin reverb. Your only option is a decent attenuator such as a Dr. Z Airbrake. Quote Myles S. guitarzan6000
Hi Miles. I'm another "newbie" to the forum. I have a Fender Blues DeVille Reissue. (4-10's) I replaced the 6L6 output tubes with Groove Tubes "SubStitubes", now using EL84's as output tubes...My problem is, it's still too loud to get the tone it's capable of when it's really opened up. Any other suggestions?? Also what would you recommend the "settings" be set on. It's a great sounding amp, just way too loud. My guitars are a Hagstrom Super Swede and an American Deluxe Strat....Thanks.

steve f
Myles, Are matched power tubes as important on cathode biased amps compared to other amps? I've got some nice tubes that are different by 6 to 7 milliamps as far as current draw, about 20%, and I'd like to use them on a couple of Carr amps if the bias circuitry in these amps will adjust individually to each tube. Will cathode biased amps normally adjust for each tube separately?

If it has one bias supply for a duet or quad then it is very important from my own point of view to have matched output sets. Quote Myles S. paully
Myles, Maybe you can answer a question that's been bugging me for awhile now. Ampeg stuck a couple of diodes from each leg of the O-transformer's primary to ground(Pic 1) on certain amps. The V4b amp already has a fullwave PS(Pic 2). Wondering their reasoning, and if you might have a thought. Thanks! bradw
Hi there, my guitar is acting like an antenna when plugged in to my Alesis Midiverb4. I have a Taylor guitar with K&K Trinity pic ups. When unplugged I hear nothing but the usually bit of noise, but as soon as the guitar is plugged in I can listen to the radio. Any ideas for a solution? miroslav
Hi Myles I just picked up a Dr.Z Route 66 amp, and was wondering if you had any preferences on the tubes to use for the 66.I am especially curious about the EF86. I see some on the Internet, but it doesnt appear like there are many different brands to pick from.Right now I am looking at a pair of IEC/Mullard EF86 tubes, but was wondering if there was any modern production of this tube you would recommend? Also...any tips on optimum setup for this amp...the bias/mA "best choice"...etc...and any other comments you might have about the Route 66. Thanks!
