Richard W
I'm late to the D'Angelo party, but have been listening to his new album, "Black Messiah," almost non-stop this week. It is fantastic on many levels, not the least of which is the bass guitar throughout. It's Pino Paladino doing the honors, according to what I've read. I know he's toured with the Who, and that he's a great player and all, but his work here is really stellar. Respect. "Everyone wants to change the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves." Bottom End
I've read several very positive reviews, I'll have to check him out. "Call me what instrument you will, though you can fret me, yet you cannot play upon me.'-Hamlet Guitar solos last 30 seconds, the bass line lasts for the whole song. SteveC
Pino is a killer player. Many styles, many genres, many great recordings. I wish I would have listened to him earlier.
_Sweet Willie_
This D'Angelo album is terrific. Terrific. Thanks. Terrific. Great review in The New Yorker magazine by Sasha Frere Jones, who gives Pino props in the review as the best living electric bass player. (I don't think Jones has heard any of my exemplary work. I realize that y'all were a little confused. Just helping you out of your befuddlement. ) Peace. spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes! Nordstrand Pickups and Guitars. Messiaen knew how to parlay the funk. jeremy c
14 years before making the logical follow-up to Voodoo. The new one and the old one are both awesome. Free download of my cd!.
Nicklab
So did Questlove play drums on this record, too? I know he played on "Voodoo", and a rhythm section of Pino with Questlove is sick beyond words. Richard W
Yes, that is Questlove on drums on the new album, too. "Everyone wants to change the world, but no one thinks of changing themselves." Leo Tolstoy
_Sweet Willie_
I enjoyed Brown Sugar. I really enjoyed Voodoo. I'm really, really enjoying Black Messiah, even if it took more than a decade for D'Angelo to get here. Nice to hear the offerings getting stronger over time. spreadluv Fanboy? Why, yes!
