Hello from the Atlantic...

My name is Eric and I produce and mix a little here and there. I just moved into a new space and am wanting to convert a finished attic into a mixing room. As you have probably guessed, the room presents some challenges.

I have read the FAQ and have been browsing the forums for a couple weeks and have learned tons. I am going to start by treating the two main corners behind the desk and also my main reflexion points on the side walls. I'm going to go with Ethan's design and do the 4' thickness.

My main areas of concern are the A-frame ceiling, the closet that skews the room in the left corner, and a dormer on the right wall. I'm posting these dimensions to solicit expertise and advice. I've read everything I can but would love some feedback based on these schematics.

Here is an overhead view of the room with all dimensions. Please excuse the elementary drawing but it serves the point.

| |

   | 1.6 |
3.75 |
                                 |
   | 10.4 |

Let me try to make sense of this drawing. The room is oblong with the exit
door to the far left corner. There is a small closet in this corner as well, who's dimensions are 2.75 x 4 x 1.6. This, obviously, juts into the room making it not square.

To the right is a dormer that extends 4.5 ft. out creating another awkard space. The ceiling height is different here as well at 6.5 ft.

The ceiling of the entire room is 8.5 ft. at it's highest point, and as stated above, is an A-frame. Here is another drawing of the dimensions of the walls and ceiling looking from the horizontal perspective, facing the room from the north short wall.
 Code:

            +--------+
   4.08 + ^ + 4.08
      + | +
   + | +
+ | +
| |
| 8.5 |
| |
| 4.42 | 4.42
| |
| |
| 18.5 |
+--------------------------------+

Do I have something worth working with here or should I hang it up? Any comments are welcome.

Thanks,
.eric

You should be able to get fine results in a room like that. I suggest more than just two bass traps for a room that size, but other than that, all the standard advice applies. That your corners are not 90 degrees is not a big deal. They're still corners, so they'll still benefit from bass traps.
