I'm actually considering this purchase...they're like this unattainable grail to me, although I've only heard them played by 4 people (Geddy, Justin Chancellor, some kid on YouTube that stalks Justin Chancellor, and Mr. PhilW).
Has he REALLY quit making them?

This will be fun to watch. Half the members of of TalkBass have already contacted their banks, wives, and near-death relatives to stir up funds.

0-9 - there is one PJR who no longer frequents this board (you can find him on the dudepit and talkbass). He has a Wal. It is beautiful. A bit heavy for my taste (a 5 string), but smooth and sweet. It looks like this:

WAIT! STOP! NO! Don't get stoopid yet! Looks like there may be a future: WAL Product News "...no new orders are being taken until everything is in place to facilitate the manufacturing of these fine bas guitars." I'm not real sure what a bas guitar is, but I bet it could be hung on a wal.

I'm actually considering this purchase...they're like this unattainable grail to me... I know the feeling. I'm still mad at myself for not buying the used one that went through BassNW a year(?) ago. They sound insane.

Might as well get the first generation before the shop gets going again. When/if they do go back into production a mythology will develop just like it has with Fender, Gibson, Selmer, and many other brands. In some cases there are facts that support the myth, sometimes those facts apply to a fraction of units made but they get applied braodly to a genration of instruments. I am certain thet there will be devotees of Wals made in shop #1 who would never consider a shop #2 instrument because of some perceived inferiority. I'd like to see Wal (or any manufacturer, for that matter) break that pattern.
