SOUL-ful music - dedicated to Lee Flier... :-)

Recommended Posts

Inspired by the discussion in the " Soul thread, I injected a bit of "Soul" into my latest hot-off-the-press uploaded-20-seconds-ago track " Yes! More! Harder! Faster!\" To inject this soul, I took the help of some advanced voice synthesis techniques... what can be more soulful than a femal computer voice? Enjoy the track (Note: :eek etc. *grin*) /Z This message has been edited by Master Zap on 08-08-2001 at 01:45 PM

Here's the most soul I've heard out of electronics in a while: This is really Soulful I never said Soul couldn't be produced from electronics but I still think it's almost always better with more organic instruments. Zap, as a "producer"...I think you'll really love this. This message has been edited by Steve LeBlanc on 08-08-2001 at 02:32 PM

Lets just say my post was somewhat ironic But it's true that the discussion on "soul" here spawned me to program the (highly natural) voice synthesis to say for example "let the music touch my soul" and such. Hehe. I'm silly that way. Steve: Yes indeed I loved it, especially the usage of SAM, the old C64 speech synthesizer. (Could possibly be the Amiga version). ((Yes I am a speech synthesis nut ) /Z

Wow thanks Trash Monkey! Yeah well It was a coin toss where to genre-place it coz it's both rather nasty house and rather gentle trance at the same time.... I had the mouse hovering over both "hard house" and a few other genres before letting the pointer land att "Progressive Trance". Maybe I should have picked "Hard Trance" but I really wish there was a way to put something in two genres coz I seem to ALWAYS make a track that blends two genres... (I think the wildest mix ever was "Breakbeat" and "Classical Baroque", hear it here ) /Z

Hi guys V-E-R-Y nice music Zap, well done too, really miss the flashing lights it makes me realize 'soul' is a different 'something' for anybody. I'm curious what Lee thinks about the 'soul' of it, nice music though. Steve, V-E-R-Y nice music too!! IMO there's more 'soul' in this music, but thats only my opinion Peace.

Hi guys! First of all I did listen to some of Zap's track. It was interesting, and I could tell he had fun doing it and that it is very creative, but you haveta understand that electronic music is just very difficult for me to listen to. I react to music on a really visceral level and it just hits me wrong, which is really hard to get past. So if there is "soul" there I guess it just doesn't reach me. But I can totally tell that Zap is a really passionate and articulate guy and I can certainly feel the "soul" coming through in what he writes here! As for my stuff - well unfortunately the only thing of mine that I have online right now, which is on my web site right here , is a recording that is 20 years old. In fact, almost 20 years to the day! I was 18 when I did that but still get a kick out of listening to it. I thought about going through all my old 1/4" reels and transferring them to digital, but then I thought, screw it, I'd rather deal with the future than the past. So the next thing you hear will be new. Then I finally finished my studio last year and started recording some new stuff, but then I got sidetracked by some paid recording projects for other people, and THEN I ended up getting together with my new band. So now I'm probably going to scrap everything I did and redo it with them, because it will be so much better! But, be patient and I'll have some more stuff up eventually. And sign, I'm glad you enjoyed my writings. I also don't know if you read this article that I did right here on musicplayer.com. I do like to write other stuff as well as songs! Guess I have to get back to writing computer programs, now. --Lee
