hey all. I have been looking for the sheet music for Duran Duran's Rio for awhile now, and haven't been able to come across it. does anyone happen to have a link? particularly the intro is what i'm after. the sort of quick notes. i've found a good bass tab and my bro has the guitar tab. we're trying to play it . here are those links for anyone that's interested:

any help would be greatly appreciated \:\)

Are you talking about the quick notes that go throughout the song? I just set up my Nord Lead with a fast arpeggiator, set to random, and held down chords. Kinda had to, was playing other parts with my other hand, singing lead, and doing the sax solo, that tune was quite a handful for me (a lot of fun though!).

I spent untold hours on this song, and "Hungry Like the Wolf". I posted the MIDI arpeggiator sequences to the Motif forum not too long ago. I didn't see the point in posting the other tracks. I've never done attachments in this forum so am not sure if it supports that feature. MIDI is quite small, of course.

and just a touch of quick portamento, if were talking intro. (dont remember if theres any within the song)

nord is i think best choice to emulate this sound. it was originally done on a jupiter 8, the trademark random mode on its arpeggiator. and on many other songs of this album.

gotta an mp3 here of the beast, i improvised w random arpeggiator tweakin sounds. not "rio" per se, but i think the texture will ring a bell;

I was originally using the Nord Lead 3 with my own custom patches for Duran Duran stuff, until it was stolen last July. I am able to get as good or better emulation of Jupiter 4 and Jupiter 8 sounds from my Yamaha PLG150-AN plug-in card though -- especially when using the excellent programming of Dave Polich ("Regenerator" voice library).

The key is to set note lengths quite short (I seem to recall using values of 010 or 020, but am not at home at the moment so can't verify this). It is NOT a random arpeggio, but is also not of the same pattern length as the other instruments.

It doesn't have to be exact note-wise, but the pattern length should match the recording in order to achieve the right effect. I put a lot of time into "Rio" and "Hungry Like the Wolf", and it was a great learning experience with a satisfactory payoff (psychologically).

Every time I listen to that song and think about trying to figure out how best to play that part, I'm reminded that I'm really just a pianist, not a synthesist (although I do have aspirations to be the latter) . . . .
