How about a special issue of EQ(Re:"Tip-Top Vocal Tips and Tricks" July 2006) dealing with how to record Orchestral/Soundtrack material from your average Keyboard Workstation.I read the above article and I was thinking to myself " Wow,how could I translate what they did with the recording of "Star Wars" to my home studio.
There are more than a few questions that could be answered along the way such as:

1. How to make the most out of just 4 audio outputs on your rig and how best to route them to the inputs on your digital studio so you get as much separation as possible.How many tracks should be used when recording to your PDS/DAW.Pan settings for each section in the orchestra.

2.What are the best settings as far as reverb,compression,limiting etc. are concerned for mixing and mastering.Should we use any of the above *while* recording?

3.What would be the best type of monitors to use for tracking and mixing.

4.How you could make your orchestral emulation sound similar to film orchestras from the past."The Adventures of Robin Hood" anyone? "North by Northwest"? And,dare I ask,"Star Wars"?

I'm sure I'll have more suggestions in the future,but wouldn't this make for a great keepsake issue?

Yes it would actually, and John Krogh (long time contributor to EQ and Keyboard) does this kind of stuff all the time. I also know Amin Bhatia and Alan Howarth so they would be good resources as well. Thanks for the idea.

If this particular issue didn't come out until next May,that would be a good thing because it would give me some more time to refine some of my suggestions for the suggested issue.

I would suggest printing a copy of this as it makes extremely enjoyable leisure reading.

I'll have to wait awhile for a reply I know,but I would really love to see an article(or three) and how to do this for ourselves.
BTW Mr. Anderton,do you really know it all or do you just *write* like you do?
