Ben Folds lessons / Andy Leverne
Intermediate section / ex.1 d

This 2 measure extrapolation of a brief line has no key signature, only accidentals, & moves through Fm, Eb, Bb,Ab. Mostly it's the same line over each chord, varying only the quality of the 7ths & 3rds.
In the Ab section it seems to include the augmented 4th (as Bob Dylan might say, "plain D").
Am I missing something ?
Granted my ear may not be perfect but I tried both the natural & augmented 4th but couldn't decide that either sounded wrong.

Hey NC-17,

Thanks for the note. I went back and looked at the exercise as we printed it, Andy's original notes, and the general transcription. We published it as Andy intended it, with the augmented 4th. In "Landed," Ben uses the augmented 4th over Ab chords pretty often, so it makes sense in the context of the piece.

"Plain D"... I like it:)

Mike
