I am considering the purchase of a Focusrite Platinum OctoPre. Can the Roland 2480 R-Bus be used to receive the signal from the pre-amp. Would I use an R-Bus cable for this?

Any feedback would be appreciated.

Thanks!

R-bus is only compatable with other Roland products. It is a digital format.
The optional output cards will send adat or aes and spdif.
If you are using a 2480, you might as well not even bother with the preamps. There is no way to get around the preamps in the unit, the line inputs are just routed through the preamps with a pad. You would be funneling good sound through the crappy front end of the Roland, don't waste the cash.

sstutts, Farview is correct that the R-bus cannot be used with the Focusrite the way you want to use it. For more information on the VS unit and routing sound, may I recommend the VS-planet forum. The VS-2480 preamps have been discussed in great depth and you may find it interesting.
