I've got a small studio mainly to record my songs and maybe some frinds. I haven't yet bought a good LDC mic and was considering the ifet47 IF it really does what they claim. Having essentially 2 mics would be great, but I'm more concerned with quality. I've used a Manley refcard (black) and loved it, but that is my main experience with LDC mics. I mostly record: acoustic/electric guitars, bass, and male vocals that range from "whispy" (think John Mayer) to full and clear (think Bono or Sting).

I am currently have: Brent Averill 312A (API) Pres, 2 distressors, 002 rack, 57, 421, akg 451, ksm 32

IMO, Soundelux doesn't make a single "bad" mic. The iFET7 is a good mic. One of our regular posters just purchased one (along with a Manley) and I believe he's been happy with his so far. I have never been a huge U87 fan, so for me, the iFET7 would probably see a lot more use in the "I" (U47FET) mode, but your opinion may differ.

If you can cough up the extra cash, I'd recommend the new Soundelux E250... that's a seriously cool vocal mic for the type of vocals you mentioned. I liked the review unit so much that I gave it an EQ Exceptional Quality Award.

Thanks for the tip... Funny thing though, between the time of posting and checking for replys I actually read the review in EQ!

I had a singer in here last night and she borrowed a U87 from her roomate, to say it was bright would be an understatement. Definately not the right mic for her. She's bringing his Telefunken U47 tonight! Looks like I'm getting a crash course in classic mics. I want this guys mic collection...

The V mode on the iFET7 is definitely not crispy, it's actually very balanced and relatively mellow...much more round than a U87ai. I LOVE this mic on male vocals, especially slightly more aggressive stuff. The V mode has a naturally compressed sound and it takes EQ very well too. The I mode is a bit brighter. Both make for a very versatile mic for a rock and roll studio.

Fantastic mic IMHO! As Nathan has indicated, exceptional on male rock vocal, but I've also used mine with great success on acoustic guitar, female vocals. You can hear it here on male rock vocal, though the vocalist isn't that good.(me) Click on the little speaker icon just below the title, (Naughty) to stream. A most wonderful Mic! Rob

PS And here for acoustic guitar
