First, I want to thank Ethan, Bryan and the forum in general for all of the advice and tips. I am well on my way to fixing an unusable room using mineral wool (sourced from Bryan Pape).

My question for the forum is as follows: In your experience, have you found it easier finding the optimum placement and integration of a subwoofer before or after the installation of the new room treatments, especially broadband bass absorbers?

Thanks, Brenton

My own room has been a work in progress for a few years now. I've added a lot of treatment over time, and added one sub, then replaced it with another. In both cases I put the sub in one of the front corners. That placement works great! But you also need a lot of bass trapping.

To answer your specific question \:D I'd add all the treatment and bass traps first before settling on a final sub position.

Hello:
There are many articles on the web for subwoofer placement. Here is a link: http://www.sonicdesign.se/subplace.html
I had one sub in place before installing bass traps and it was OK. However, I got much better effects after adding a second sub.
Note, I almost never have the sub on when listening to 2 channel stereo but it's always on for movies.
Regards,
Richard

I think what everyone is getting at is there really is not a wrong way to go at this. For my own room I put the sub in first and found the best spot, then put treatment in. But even after the treatment was in I found that I needed to move the sub just a little. As Ethan said "Work in progress".

I'd agree. To me, it's much easier to find the best place for a sub prior to any treatment. The differences are just much larger and more obvious both by ear and on a graph. The idea is to get rid of the 'big nasties' with placement as much as possible - then bring things in line with the treatments.

Thanks to everyone for the advice. Found what appears to be three of the best spots for sub. Will select final position and fine tune after installing treatments. Thanks again
