Would I be out of order to suggest a new updated definitive 'read only' sticky with the basic hard line rules on bass traps, corner traps, foil facing room, foil facing wall, plus/minus of airspace behind trap, plus/minus of back filling said airspace, ends of corner traps open or sealed and any gain or loss of open or sealed, and probably a few others basic Q's ?

Purhaps an outline or 'bullet' style ? Headings, sub headings, facts, bottom lines, etc..

Way too many of us keep asking the same questions over and over again, (as most forums do) and the answers coming from all the members are colored with their personal experiances and/or results.. This makes for a real mess, as one has to read and re-read tons of posts to keep it all straight..

Again, I hope I am not out of line, and greatly appreciate all the work that goes into this forum and the support from all it's members.. I guess I'm just older than I care to admit, and my attention span seems to have suffered with age :-)
Anything that could be done to streamline the whole info gathering process would be terrific !

thks... mike

I don't mean to be a jerk.. but all of this stuff is in Ethan's acoustic article already. It took me reading it 3 or 4 times to really absorb all of it... but like Prego... it's in there.

Right.. I've read it.. Couple times.. A simple version would be nice..
When you read the forum responces, they do not always say the same thing, or they tweek it here and there... Wouldn't it be better to have a nice clean clear spread sheet type of deal ?

I can definitely agree with all points. Ethan's article IS too good to pass up. It touches on a lot of finer points as well. BUT I did have to read it a few times to absorb a starting point for my plans. The same damned questions keep making it into the forum because many find it easier to just ask or simply aren't interested enough to read the article sufficiently. Come to think of it, it would be interesting to see the rate of postings after such a sticky was implemented.

How do I treat for bass? Can I use foam? Should I frame my traps? Do I need panel traps? What of my ratios?

Not to say I wouldn't continue to help out with answers where possible. I LOVE hearing myself talk/type. Does that make me a bad person? \:\)

Guys,

The first questions one person wants answered aren't always the same as what others want first. So it's difficult for me to know what order to list things in with the FAQ. Here's a very simplified version of what's needed to treat a room:

* Broadband (not tuned) bass traps in as many corners as you can manage, including the wall-ceiling corners.

* Mid/high frequency absorption at the first reflection points on the side walls and ceiling.

* Some additional amount of mid/high absorption on any large areas of bare parallel surfaces, such as opposing walls or the ceiling if the floor is reflective.
