We are in the planning stages of a 2100 sq ft studo of new construction. The studio would sit on top of an existing single story office space inside of a large metal warehouse. My concern is noise transmission from the studio into the office space below. The office space is in full time use by the building's owner. Is it possible to "ballpark" the STC needed in a floor assembly to adequatly isolate live drums, bass, and guitar, and/or a 90db mix in the control room?? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi John,

Im not an acoustician by any means, but it will depend on alot of factors...such as who your 'neibors are' what city codes say, and how much weight this second story can handle.

Also STC is more concerned with speech range of audio, i think what you need is Transmission Loss or TL

really, the best thing you can do is hire an acoustician and go to

http://www.johnlsayers.com/phpBB2/index.php

this is all they discuss there.. bear with them, they get lots of questions and may tell you alot ot things you dont want to hear \:\)

good luck and congratulations
