please see the following five images. i'm having trouble figuring out what to do about some of the jags caused by the hvac duct. the pictures coincide with the 4 corners of the living room in the layout. first pic is the upper rt, 2nd is upper lft, 3rd is direct picture of daw including the lower rt corner, and 4th is the other corner which really isnt a corner, its a small corridor as shown in the layout. since this isnt a perfectly enclosed rectangular room, i'm not exactly sure what to do. Also note that the wall between the kitchen and living room is full height with the two entrances as shown. i want to use a number or 2'x4'x4" bass traps. thanks to ethan for helping me out on the sonar board!

Well, to maintain good symmetry left to right I'd do the following:
1. Consider doing all of the horizontal corners around the room where the walls meet the ceiling. You don't have a pair of left/right corners in either the front or back that will work decently.
OR
2. Do the Tri-Corners and the horizontal corners front and back. Then potentially add some free-standers to do double duty for that and reflections along the left and right when needed - slide out of the way when not.

the only problem that I was having with doing that is that the HVAC duct gets in the way on the right wall (assuming the desk is in front). that means the traps on the upper right and lower right would be about 18" away from the right wall. it seemed that this would narrow the coverage. let me know if i have misinterpreted. by the way i am the one who spoke to you this morning and these are the 6 mineral wool sheets i'll be using. thanks again
another alternative i was thinking was using the layout i have in the drawing and using the last 2x4 cut into triangles into the tri corners where you suggested.

For the right, use 2 sets - each half the size - 1 at the ceiling/duct, 1 at the duct/wall. The symmetry behind you is not as critical as in front of you. The small amount of 'out of symmetry' this would cause would be trivial - especially in comparison to the vertical corner on one side in front being treated and the other corner in the front not treated.
