Pardon me for asking a common question, but after reading the rave reviews about the SoundFont "Ethan's Bassoon", I just had to have it, being a woodwind fanatic. I downloaded it, extracted the .zip file, but cannot seem to open it with SoundBlaster Live's Vienna Soundfont Studio 2 on my PC. I am very new to the soundfont world, so can someone advise me where to go from here?

I might add that I downloaded the soundfont on a PC, but it will ultimately be used on a Mac Powerbook with Logic Express. Anything I should know about transferring soundfont from a PC to a Mac?

Thanks in advance for your help,

Greg Smith

I forgot to mention that first I tried using Netscape with "Download Manager" disabled, and then tried the download with Window's Explorer. The file extracts without any extension on it, but has "sfArk" icon. When double-clicked, Melody Machine's extraction utility tries to open it, but says it cannot open files of this type. I'm stuck.

Greg,

I don't know where you downloaded it from, but sfArk is a popular compression program and the program is therefore needed to open those files. I'm not sure if SfArk is even available anymore. If you email me from the link at my personal site http://www.ethanwiner.com I'll gladly send you either the Bassoon SoundFont, or sfArk, or both. Let me know in your email. The SoundFont itself is just under 5 MB, and sfArk is 510 KB, so either can be emailed.
