Ethan,
I found Certainteed 3" Fsk and will use this for corner traps. Will this give me better results on the back and side walls also or should I use 2"or 3"unfaced on these surfaces.
These treatments are for home theater.

The unfaced stuff will give better results on the walls, because the facing would reflect highs and upper mids.

The plain is usually a bit cheaper so that's even better, but if you're getting a smokin' deal on the FSK or already bought a lot of it, the facing can usually be peeled off without too much trouble.

Another thing that helps, is that if you can space the wall panels out two inches or so that will extend their absorption into the mid bass region.

Oh, and I hope I won't be overwhelming you with this, but once you get your bass trapping done the next thing to worry about is creating an RFZ (Reflection Free Zone) at the listening position. Check out this article of Ethan's about improving monitoring, particularly the sub heading "Early Reflections and Imaging".

Mind Riot,
Thank you for the helping me out.

I have just 1 question about what thickness 2" or 3"(3lb density) for back and side walls? From all the post I have read my thinking is the thicker the better.
By the way the I have not purchased any of these panels yet.

Chud,

MR is giving you great advice. Thanks MR!

Yes, and then it comes down to expense. When treating the side walls and ceiling for first reflections two inches is usually considered "thick enough" because first reflections are mainly a mid/high frequency issue. But those places are not ideal for bass traps anyway since they're not near the corners. So even if you used 12 inch thick fiberglass there you won't get as much bass trapping as you would with thinner panels across the corners. So paying more to use thicker fiberglass there gives less "return on investment" than using thick panels in the corners.
