Hi,

I've got a room of the following size:

6.3 x 3.6 x 2.3 m

Would you recommend corner bass traps (of the diagonal type) or panel bass traps for this room?

It depends on the room, and what you already have in there, but nearly all rooms can benefit from some bass trapping... and most rooms have early reflection issues too. I'd recommend both for a room that size.

Anders,

A room that size is on the border. I agree with Phil that both types of traps will be useful. But since the fiberglass type is so much easier to build, I suggest you start with that. Treat all the corners including the ceiling corners, and then you'll know if you need to put additional panel traps on the walls.

Hi,

I intend to use the corner traps for my room for lower frequences, but for mid-high freq I'm thinking of using the contruction at

http://www.ethanwiner.com/BTPlans.gif

My questions are:
Why does the high-bass trap have the fiber placed directly towards the wall, where as the mid-high trap is spaced 2" away from the wall? That seams contradictory to me. On the mid-high ones, why is the porous farbric placed some small distance away from the fiber?

How would a more simple construction for mid-high with the fiber placed directly towards the wall and with the farbric simply placed in contact with the fiber (for cosmetic reasons) work do you think?

Thank's

Anders

Anders,

That trap works on a different principle than using plain fiberglass. But the main reason it's against the wall is because that's the only way it will fit into a depth of two inches.

This is explained in my Acoustics FAQ in the section Optimizing the air gap.
