If I were to take 2'x 8'pieces of 703
and cover them with berlap and mount them to
the wall leaving a 3" air space behind, Would they
be light enough to hang with Velcro? And what would
the acoustic benifits? low mids?
thanks

3,

It all depends on how thick the 703 is. One inch thick will probably stay up with velcro. Four inch thick definitely won't.

That too depends on the thickness.

Well, the idea was to take 1" 703, spray glue(77) it
to Foamcore and rap the panel with Berlap.
My question now is, should I bother spacing these off the wall or mount flat.

One inch isn't very thick, so you'll do well to space them.

Etahn,

In the theater, we use "hook and loop" type fasteners (Velcro is a trademark) that would hold -you- to the wall. It's there if you want it. The fasteners conventionally sold in fabric stores for clothing won't do it, though.

ROF,L. Thanks. When I've used Velcro to hold heavy things, the problem is not the "hooks 'n' loops" as much as the self-stick glue, which separates from what it's attached to. Does the stuff you use have better glue?

Ethan,

Yes, better glue. Like most things there are brands and there are brands. There may even be levels of glue permanence, I don't know. It does suffer from being allowed to go 'stale', like most other tape. Got to use it while it is fresh.

It also comes in lots of sizes.

Wherever they get it, out props department has rolls of each side, about 1 inch wide. That is a general purpose size. It has a medium stick capability, and can hold heavy goods like scenic draperies to a frame solidly and over a long distance, without peeling off, even when the scenery is being handled, moved, or flown. Wouldn't hold a single Ethan, though. (Well, enough of it might...)

But there is much larger that we see come in with road shows. And some amazing things are held together by it.
