I've got a bunch of 50-pound sand bags that need a good use. Would it be a good idea to place them on the floor against the wall? Would this serve as a good corner treatment?
Not really because sand is very compactable and not very resilient meaning that after a few minutes of bass the sand particles will be packed together and the bass will transmit as before. You really need something "springy" that is not fully compressed by whatever is sitting on it (if it is fully compressed it is the same as a brick).
BTW - Ethan, I just built 10 panel traps according to the design on your site. I mounted them on 3/4" ply and I'm not yet sure how I will attach them to my walls (drywall).

Shot,
Below is a drawing that shows how we mounted the panel traps we used to sell. Cut 1x4 boards in half at a 45 degree angle which makes the two mating pieces.
