KikkyMonk
Which pin is hot/gnd/neutral? I'm making a cable tester for my class and I need to know. Thanks Dave
gtrmac
Pin 2 is hot, Pin 3 "cold", Pin 1 shield or ground. Actually pin 3 is a reverse phase hot signal which is used to reject noise. There are still devices which are wired Pin 3 hot also. This is unfortunate since Pin 2 hot has become a defacto standard for many years. Mac Bowne G-Clef Acoustics Ltd. Paul Berolzheimer
Pin 2 hot is not only a defacto standard, it's been an AES standard for around 10 years now. gtrmac
Go figure! I shake my head in disbelief when I see pro gear with pin 3 hot. Unfortunately it appears even on some very good devices, I think Massenburg still uses Pin 3 hot for instance but don't quote me on this because I could be wrong. Mac Bowne G-Clef Acoustics Ltd. not Cereal
a peice of gear with pin3 hot on the input and output does not change the polarity of the signal. it goes out the same way it came in. only if a piece of gear had one side pin 3 hot and other side pin 2 hot would there be any difference.
