I have two of the Yamaha AW4416's and they're great units... not perfect, but very cool. Onboard editing is the number one complaint of most users, but I use computers for that, so it doesn't effect me. The 2816 is functionally very similar, but has a few fewer features on it. Only one option card slot, 9 moving faders instead of 17, etc. You might want to check out http://www.aw2816.com for more info, or come over and visit us on the AW user's group at http://groups.yahoo.com/group/AW4416 . Greetings Phil O'Keefe Sound Sanctuary Recording Riverside CA Listen, Thank You So very Much for the reply.. I'm still kinda green.(but learning fast) as the electronics market would have it,meaning everytime I go to get something I think is real cool for the price, there's alway's something else better that's out there... Go Figure.. And yes we will be checking into the websites you gave.. In the meantime,I haven't heard of the aw4416,I thought the 2816 was the latest because it was shown at The NAMM-2001 convention.. But thanks for the educational process or insight...(:> )... Have A Wonderful Day,Phil... Marian

Go Figure.. That's the nature (and downside) of technological advancement. It's like computers - if you get it today, it'll be "old news" a year from now, but if you wait a year, there's going to be the exact same situation happening then - two years from now, a computer that is one year old will still be "old news". And you'll have missed out on being able to use it for a year because you waited. And yes we will be checking into the websites you gave.. Anytime. The AW4416 was the first product released in the series. It started shipping in October of 2000. I have one of the first units that hit the USA, as well as a second one I got a few months later. The new AW2816 is a spin off product - the second product in the series. It is essentially the same thing with a few less features. Which one to get would entirely depend on what your needs are or what you'd like to be able to do with it. If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask and I'll do my best to help you with them. Don't forget to check out ALL the similar units (Korg D1600, Roland VS1880 / VS2480, Fostex, Akai, etc. etc.) and see which one looks like it will best suit your needs.
