Yep, actually, there have been a couple of times I literally felt like putting the wife in the trunk...
My wife has poor night vision, so, whenever we're driving somewhere at night, because she can't see...she thinks no one else can, either.
One of the times this became weird was when we were driving from Anchorage to Valdez along the Glenn and Richardson Highways. Now, for the uninitiated, it's about a 300 mile drive, through some of the most beautiful scenery on earth. But, at night, when it's snowing, it's just not all that friendly. There are lodges scattered along the highway, but nothing like what you'd expect in the lower 48.
We'd gone about 200 miles, and had just turned off the Glenn Highway on to the Richardson for the final leg to Valdez. It started snowing lightly...but began to snow a bit heavier the further we went. By the time we were about 50 miles out of town, it was coming down well. No traffic. No open lodges. My wife was having a living hernia...screaming at me to pull over. I'm telling her, "If I pull over, they'll find us in the morning looking like Jack Nicholson in the last scene of "The Shining". I literally almost thought I should put a blindfold on her...as her hysterics were perhaps even more dangerous than the snow. The only thing to do was push on as cautiously as possible. We finally made it to Thompson Pass...which is perhaps treacherous, but less so because it's generally well maintained, has "white out" markers and a constantly manned D.O.T. facility (if you break down, you've got someplace to go. The last few miles into Valdez it was snowing, but we were in our own territory. We made it home A.O.K...
