... A gig with no security ended up in an uninvited crowd onstage tripping over my Roland D-70, and drowning it in beers \:\(

I was lucky and was able to get the power off before it got burned..

Ok.. I have spendt last couple of days cleaning it and it seems like its coming back to life.. But all the sounds are gone.. Both the factory presets and my own..

Is there any easy way to get the factory sounds from the net and load it into my D-70??

I found some ancient progs based on windows 3,1 and win 95, but nothing on Win Xp...

(I have never loaded anything at all to any of my keyboards before, so if any of you have a link or an easy description as well it would be awsome!)

Thanks!!

Had the same problem once. Only it was my fault, a cup of coffe and a brand new Korg CX-3 (2 days old). Actually never fully recovered \:\(

Uh...yes.. Its really tedious and irritating..

Also Ive read some stuff about the D-70 on the net.. It seems like its Midi functions are not the best product produced..

But still: I think I have found a zip file with some factory sounds on it.. But Im not sure how/which program to use to get it into my keyboard..

hmmmm

Well, after only having my BRAND NEW TRITON EXTREME 76-key for only a month or two (or less)I was putting it in my travel case, and the bottom scraped against the stand, leaving a minor mark. This really irritated me.

I remembered, though, that no matter what, it is still the same Extreme. Everything is fully-functional, and the mark isn't really noticeable. I'm just glad it's okay! I had another ding on the top that happened sooner, but it's so small it looks like dust! :-) I know it isn't the same scenario, but I hope it makes you feel better...

The other thing is, I know it's hard to let go of your roland..but you should really check out Korg. I've compared both companies and their flagship workstations. Korg definitely wins in ease-of-use, and everything about their products.

Besides, look at the fantom... What's the point in a color screen if you can't DO anything with it (see TouchView)?

Anyway, I hope this has helped.

We've debated on the "Touch screen vs. Color Screen" issue already.

personally, i prefer touch screen. I have a Fantom S. People who have the Fantom X say that the color really helps.

just looking at it, you can identify some parameters instantly. plus, when you're doing sequecing, its looking like a professional DAW.

Fantom X kicks ass in the GUI dep. Its the best out of the big 3.

Geeza,
really sorry to hear about that man. i hear you, cos, once when gigging, in the middle of the show, one of my Triton LE's buttons went deep inside! i was panicking in the middle of the song. for the rest of the gig, i set up a program in combi mode and used the COMBI button instead of the broken button to access that patch.

all i can say is : it happens. thats the nature of gigging.

Equipment getting damaged because of people with drinks in the hands of clueless drunks can be a real problem. Many people don't recognize the invest we as musicians have in our rigs and probably can't understand our being paranoid. I've had more than one incident playing in over crowded night clubs that really didn't have adequate security or a way of keeping people with alcohol in them away from my gear. I had to stop playing to get in between my equipment and potential "accident" from happening and often times people just didn't get it.

I was playing a gig and a music stand slid down and put a nice scratch on my brand new Motif ES 7.ARRRRGGH!

OK, it's broken in now, so I guess it doesn't matter any more :-/

I hate when that happens though, at least it wasn't a bear with a couple of beers...

I have a proble with waitresses once in a while. They'll bring me a beer and try to hand it to me OVER my boards. I tend to take offense to that, and instruct them to hand me my beer along side and below the lowest board.
I had a Kawai K1 that took a minor coffee spill. It was off at the time, and I wiped up the spill immediately. I still had to send it in for repair.
I think the crown should be prohibited from having drinks on the dance floor anyway. that would get rid of the bears with beers.

For one thing, you probably haven't seen the last of the damage. Places where the beer dried up incompletely can now start collecting dirt and lint and interfere with switches and possibly even keys (though, maybe not for a velocity sensitive keyboard -- thank goodness!)

If you were playing in a bar, you should consider going to their management and seeing if you can work out a settlement. Would have been best to do this before "fixing" it, but I understand the jones to get it working again.

Long ago, I had a full cup of beer spilled onto/into my Juno-106. It died immediately. Wouldn't power up... nothing. Dead.

I set it aside in the garage, thinking perhaps I'd try and fix it someday. About a month later, I took it out and plugged it in just for the hell of it, and presto-bango, it was perfectly fine. Power, patches... all was well. Wiped it down with a damp rag and put it back on the stand.

Sometimes they resurrect themselves. I called my keyboard "Jesus" for awhile after that.

Was it at least good beer?
I know if my D70 had the sweet bouquet of Guinness....

You know, just the other day I saw a bumper sticker that read: "Garbage Kills Bears." I thought, "useful information, now I know what to do if I'm ever attacked by a Grizzly."
