A short video clip from a recent jam session at a Heidi's jazz club in Cocoa Beach. I was on vacation and itching to play, and found this club. It felt good to get my fix!

Nice, man. I enjoyed your playing greatly...even as I sat here squirming at how steadfastly the others refused to connect or engage with you on any level. You kept sending hello's over to the rhythm section, and they kept chugging away cluelessly (the drummer in particular). Awkward (them).

Really nice playing Al ! At least their time was ok and they stayed out of the way for the most part. Except when that guitar player started to try and mimic your phrases towards the end of your solo. What ?!!! facepalm

I don't think he was aware he was doing a no no , he just obviously wasn't familiar with the genre.

You could tell though they didn't really know how to support you so your solo would have the effect of building and being more dynamic. It was almost had the vibe of - one step above "playing with a drum machine or backing track mode".

But yeah all that considered great job ! We've probably both sat in under way more adverse conditions. wink As long as the time is there and they aren't playing too loud where I have to radically alter my technique and what I play…then I'm usually ok. But I still don't feel I'm a good sitter in type of guy.

I liked it on YouTube but I'll add it here. Very nice indeed.

Thanks Dave and 16251! I'm glad you liked it.

I also struggle with being a good sitter in type of guy. These situations sometimes include so many musical distractions that it's hard to get in the zone. I know some guys who play at the top of their game regardless of the circumstance, but unfortunately that's not me. The piano was a pleasure to play so that helped a lot. The ear to finger connection on this Yamaha C7 is excellent! smile

That's very cool they had a C7. Must be a serious music place and/or the owner is a devoted jazz and piano fan.

They have a real nice C7 at Herb Albert's place - Vibrato- up on the hill. They have the dough, and do allocate it, to keep that piano in top shape. Too bad the jazz policy is changing , for the worse. frown

When properly maintained - voiced, regulated and Pro tuned - the C7 is probably the most consistently great sounding and playing piano in the history of pianos. Certainly is the case for Jazz and pop stuff. Just have to stay up on the voicings so they don't get too bright.

Listening again to your solo , the piano does sound really good. When you play up in the high registers there's not that funky out tune effect going on that's so common on club pianos.

Paul,

Can you multi-track record? You can build on this by adding more tracks of different instruments. But be careful - it's addictive. smile

Joe

A few weeks ago, I posted a Casio PX-560M video that referred to a customer service educational video shoot. Here is one of the educational videos - the Casio is towards the end.

Watch the whole video to get the entire message. Perhaps many KC Forum folks have done customer service work and can relate to the behaviors mentioned therein. Your feedback is appreciated.

Each year, video comprises a greater ratio of my customer service consultancy's marketing and content deliverable. The intent is to keep the videos lively, informative and different. I'm always on the lookout for fresh ideas.

Most clients don't know that I play piano so this video could raise a few eyebrows, add a likability factor and hopefully differentiate my company. Thanks for making the time to watch this.

Every once in a while I stumble across something I recorded a long time ago, and sort of forgot about, and then find it and think....actually, this was pretty good.

Here are two tunes from an old album of mine. I got lucky in that Vin Scelsa from WFUV in NY put this record on his "10 best" that year, and the list got picked up by npr.org for their "Best of" article. My two-hour in-studio with him is still one of my favorite music experiences.

The first is one I always liked the recording of, but stink at singing live (and even on the recording), so it just fell through the cracks. The second I used to do live now and then back in NY, and then, like most of the songs from that record, I let it drop off the set when I put the next record out, which had a very different vibe.

Enjoy. I tend to delete these things pretty quick when sanity strikes me again.

EDIT: PM me for link.

Thanks, man. Yeah that's me singing my own stuff, for better or worse. I sound different now, though. More like Clint Eastwood with Tourrette's.

Since I first heard of the Beatbuddy drum pedal here, I decided to take the plunge and get one. No regrets. Anything that I can use without growing another hand has the fast track. I still need a lot of practice with it (and my crappy technique), but this is the best one man band stunt I've been able to put together in a long while.
Thanks, guys.

Still having fun with my new Beatbuddy. I even dragged out my good ol' Korg 707 just to see if it still worked, and to play a board with aftertouch. I got to mixing a few different beats in the BB Manager software, and threw this together:

I'm running a Beta firmware on the BB that allows the remote pedal to mimic the main one, so I can see the screen and adjust volume and tempo if needed.

Cheezy, but lots of fun!
