Hi, first time poster here.
I have a friend that is on another continent and we need to be able to share tracks via mailing CD-R.
He uses a Roland VS-1880 and I'm fully on computer using a combination of various software (Cubase/Acid etc.)
How can we send mixes to each other in Track-By-Track format not mixdown, in order to be able to recreate the tracks "In Sync" with each other.
(i.e. send tracks 1-4 to a cd then send track 5-8 to another cd with MTC??? or something)
I have no experience with the VS-1880 if anyone out there has any ideas please help us out.
Thanks in advance,
Frank
(I do have a digital copy of the VS-1880 manual)

THIS MAY HELP~~~~~ ROLAND USER SITE

But the Roland is a proprietary system --so unfortunately --you both must have the same DATA backup from the VS ...I believe your are out of luck.

Wow, that stinks.
When they designed it did they think of people that might want to digitally export to ADAT or DA-88 or something?

Thanks for that link to the users group zele.
I'm gonna X-post this over there today.

Actually, there was an app(freeware)that turned those files into .wav files, but I can't remember the name of it.I would ask specifically for that app at those forums.

I couldn't find it but Roland does have converter software for the BR-8,BR-532,and VS2000.It's possible that they share the same or similar format,it's free and worth a shot.Go here http://www.rolandus.com/support/genappstools/index.asp?CatID=12&SubCatID=48

Thanks, We'll give the software a shot.
If you do find the VS-1880 software let me know here or by email.
So my friend would want to do a BackUp dump of the song to CD-R or CD-RW and the converter should convert that to .WAV, is that correct?
I guess what I'm asking is how do I tell my friend to format the CD for the correct format for the converter software.
Thanks again for the help

Sorry Frank - you're not gonna find that software for the VS-1880 - I've been looking for it for years...If you find it please let me have a link to it also!

If I want to get the digital stuff off of the VS1880 I hook up a digital cable and play each track - one by one and capture into the DAW...pretty convenient, eh? Thank you Roland.

Otherwise I can burn an audio CD (16bit) on a scsi CD burner attached to VS1880 and rip it into the DAW...ugh

here's what you do:
do a backup of the file on the 1880 (propriatory roland format) find someone with a roland 2480, restore the 1880 file into the 2480. burn a wav file of the 1880/2480 file from the 2480. viola - roland 1880 file conversion to wav.

if you are really stuck and don't have a friend with a 2480, i am sure someone could offer this service regularly for you. we do file conversion like this all the time for clients

ROLAND was not trying to follow --but pave their own "system". ADAT was already passe^ Tascam was still tape!

What about the rest of the files/tracks in the project file? You don't mention how to seperate and convert those.

You will either have to follow KYLENs advice ( seperate tracks recorded individually to a DAW) or both have the same VS system ==== It's not like MAC opener for PC files...nothing that easy.

If you have earlier VS 880 data > you have to
you grab your DAT tape and load back into the 880 (UGH) (they were not writing to CD, as yet.) ANd individually run each track (analog!) into your 1880.

Hey Butch, Thats only for control purposes. You still can't convert tracks to a data disc that would work in other DAW software. Again, the best method (and it's a PITA) is to take the tracks out digitally via the SP/DIF out port and move two tracks at a time into the DAW. Just first remember to set the Roland as the MTC in the syn options.
