    • Bumping this one to check and see if @picker had any luck?   FWIW, there seems to be a LOT of online discussion around using the HX as a MIDI Controller, and a fair amount of confusion, as well.   It seems that there is a Command Center within the HX, where you should be able to set up MIDI commands, although most of the discussion surrounds using the HX for CC (Continuous Controller) commands, rather than simple PC (Program Change) commands?
    • Hey there gang! Here in 2024, which iOS DAW is most like a regular DAW in term of long form linear MIDI sequencing? I.E. not pattern based or clip launching?   Importantly, I'd like the ability to have odd time signatures, and even change time signatures. I've googled this extensively and the results are often from five to ten years ago.   Cubasis? Logic? Auria Pro?   Thanks!
    • I have to agree with @Dannyalcatraz, their overall sound reminds me of AC/DC.   Couple of thoughts, in that regard. Very likely Guitars with HB's, going into some kind of Brit-sounding Amp, or Amp modeler.   Keep in mind that many OD and Distortion pedals use very similar chips and circuits. I once saw a list of ALL the Overdrive pedals that used the JRC4558 chip, the favored chip for vintage TS9's, and it seemed like you'd have a hard time finding an OD that didn't use it!   Start out with a solid body with HB's, and an overdriven Amp tone, see how close you can get without adding pedals, then try a straight-ahead Distortion pedal, like a RAT, or DS-1, or what-have-you. If you have a Distortion pedal that's meant to model a British Amp tone, so much the better.
    • I've spent a fair amount of time with the Suno AI, totally amazed about what can be done with ML now, my thoughts;   - It sucks on lyrics, so does ChatGPT, for obvious reasons, there will be no way to teach these pieces of code the emotional and intellectual experience of good pop lyrics, poetry, etc. as it only mimics based on references.   - For now the sound quality is terrible, this will likely improve in short.   - It amazes me with the geniality of creating melodies, very well balanced between verse, bridge, chorus etc. and more or less always really strong chorus parts.   - The way it build up a song, is definitely competent, yes, most often kinda by the book, but this is what is expected in standard pop/rock etc.   - It's impressive with how it build arrangements, and buildups of dynamics etc. and Yes, the sound quality sucks, but as a sketch pad, incredible!   - Truly impressive with its cultural awareness, I have played around with Portugues Fado as reference genres, in different variations, and DANG, what comes out is definitely authentic.   Conclusion:   If I could be bothered writing pop/rock songs, I would definitely use it as a creative inspirational sketch pad, ditch the lyrics, maybe keep the concept ideas of the lyrics but have a human write new lyrics. Then I would simply recreate the song in its entirity in the DAW, as a starting point, and take it from there, and bring in a great real human vocalist for singing.   Imagine in a year or three, when someone (FL Studio, Ableton?) uses this kind of generative AI as a guide when starting up the DAW, a new type of music creation workflow, asking questions like;   What kind of music would you like to create today? Any specific instruments you want to use?   How long should the song be?   Is it going to be an instrumental piece or do you need lyrics? if so, do you already have some lyrics that can be used? if not, describe your idea for a story in short.   Etc.   And then you click "GO" and get the full song, as audio stems and MIDI tracks in the DAW, using virtual instruments, plugins, etc. instead of just generating a finished mix!   Go figure.

    • I just bought one used two days ago.   I had in the past (a very past) the original ARP Odissey and an Avatar (the guitar version of the Odissey). They sounded quite differenti, and now I understand why: two different version of the filter. A friend of mine still have the all black one with coloured sliders, which Is again different, maybe two poles filter?   Anyway the Behringer sounds good but a bit differenti too.   My ARP had a ring modulator I used to build fabolous bell like sounds: metallic, full of harmonics.    The kind of sound you can hear on Japan Tin Drum or Oil on Canvas albums.   Until now I couldn't recreate this sound.    Neither the Avatar did. Just my ARP Odissey I sold for little Money :(
    • In V.A.S.T., be it the original V.A.S.T. or the newer vaster V.A.S.T. with Cascade and Dynamic, there are several ways you can use internal DSP sources with Samples:   1. Samples only 2. Internal DSP Oscillators only without any Sample 3. Samples mixed with internal DSP Oscillators   In the new V.A.S.T., you can certainly use a multi-sampled Keymap, alongside an internal anti-aliased DSP Osc, e.g. a 2-block SINE+ for a single Layer, or even an aliased one like the old SAW+.   For larger AA DSP Oscs, e.g. the 4-block SAW, you'd need to use Cascade Mode, a passthrough signal and a Mixer ALG.   So these aren't mutually exclusive. Instead, what the manual seems to indicate is that if you want to do a traditional analogue subtractive synth, then you'd rather not use a Keymap, which makes sense since analogue subtractive synths don't use them at all.   You can  still use a Keymap's sample Envelope if it is set to Natural, even if the Sample itself isn't sounding via the Layer, say, if you have simply a 4-block AA DSP SAW. That SAW block effectively cuts off any of the Sample signal. However, as the AMPENV mode is set to Natural, it is the factory AMPENV for that multi-Sampled Keymap that is applied to the Layer.   The Natural envelopes have more details than can be produced with a User AMPENV.   The thing that happens with setting the Keymap to Silence is that it sets each key's amplitude to the same maximum amplitude. Maybe that's what you need in a certain program, but sometimes, if you are doing an emulative program, you could be better off actually referencing the emulation's Keymaps Sample although the latter isn't heard, with the corresponding Natural Envelope, or of course, you could just go into User Mode and make your own envelope.   Hope this helps.
    • Sweetwater might accept to deliver to Canada, but you will be charged transport accordingly and as anything going USA to Canada your item will go through customs and it is always possible to end up with extra fees - sometimes very expensive. I personally had a very bad experience about 10 years ago and promised myself to never import again from the USA unless the seller confirms on paper he pays for all possible customs and duties extra fees.   Buying Kurzweil products in Canada has always been complicated. In the 1990s a few stores in the province kept a couple of them, but if you wanted something they didn't have you had to order sight unseen and wait months to get your purchase. That is how I bought my MIDIboard, K1200 and finally, around 2000, a PC2X. I hated the Fatar action on the PC2X from day one and swore to never buy a keyboard sight unseen ever again.
